It was an exciting moment on Wednesday the 22nd of November 2017. For the first time in the history of Bayelsa state, the entertainment community consisting of major stakeholders: musicians, comedians, Movie practitioners, OAPs, music producers etc converged at one of the multipurpose halls of Ayalla Hotel Yenagoa for an unprecedented parley aimed at rubbing minds on the way forward for the industry .
From the inception of the meeting at 11am, the general conviviality that characterized the session indicated that the industry was hungry of a get to together of some sort in this direction as banters were thrown easily at each other on the floor of the interactive session and a general mood of ecstasy enveloped the hall.
In his welcome/opening speech, the SSA to the Governor of Bayelsa State Mr Asu Ekiye addressed the issues before the floor . He expressed a desire to begin to engage the community for a more robust environment for the industry and also expressed the desire of His Excellency Governor Seriake Dickson to reposition the sector.
From this moment, the floor was thrown open for comments and then , one after the other the practitioners began to throw in different shades of suggestions, observations, complains and even some comments aimed at internal cleansing of the system.
Two hours into this session, most hands were still up. But the meeting had to be rounded up as most people never wanted to leave.
The SSA responded to all comments by sharing a bit of his story. He emphasized that there was no where in the world that the entertainment industry is sponsored by government. Government role is to create the enabling environment. He assured the house that the suggestions will be presented to His Excellency the Governor for action. The meeting rounded off with some refreshment and a general photo session.
