Both footballers have won golden boots, smashed goals and other records for their respective clubs, have sons whose age difference is same as that of their fathers, dominated the Ballon D'or awards for the past decade etc. More recently, it seems they are going to both get convictions for depriving the Spanish government of taxes they are obliged to pay. Messi has earned himself a legal conviction, Ronaldo, currently, is having his day in court.
While they outshine every other player in the game of football (for now) in performances, they also command fees only they can earn and justify on the pitch in Europe. One begins to wonder if they deliberately do these things to be in each other's shadow or to bolster an already fierce rivalry.
Will the flashy, skilful and fashion number 7 man get a prison sentence that matches with his jersey number? Time will tell, at least Ronaldo and Messi are not only among footballing greats they've matched each other with the usual coincidence that trails both their club footballing career. This time it seems they will match each other's ugly records too.
